Customers were left shaken after armed raiders stole cash from a bank.

North Wales Police confirmed two men entered Barclays Bank in Queensferry at about 10.20am on Wednesday.

The men, who were dressed in boiler suits, wearing masks and balaclavas and carrying crowbars, snatched a substantial amount of cash from a security officer making a delivery.

No one was hurt and the men are believed to have made off in a vehicle which may have been driven by a third offender.

Zoe Jones, team leader at the nearby Subway store, told the Leader: “A man ran in and said there was an armed robbery, so my area manager called the police.

“I went out to see where the car had gone and it went down by KFC.

“One of the ladies that was in the bank at the time came in afterwards and we gave her a coffee - all of the other customers had run and she was the only one left in there. She was shaken.

“I saw two men - one with a mask and one with a balaclava.

“I feel quite nervous now. They were right outside our shop.”

She added she and Subway manager James Morris had been told by customers that the men were carrying crowbars.

Mr Morris added: “I didn’t know what was going on at first. I saw a car parked on the road outside and there was no one in it but the back door was open.

“Then a man burst in to say the bank was being robbed. I saw the men getting in the car. It was so quick - they were carrying bags.”

Another worker in Station Road, who did not want to be named, said: “I was shaking - You don’t see a bank robbery every day. It was like something you’d see in a film.”

Ramona Enfield, Barclays community banking director for North Wales, said: “I can confirm an incident took place at the Queensferry branch at approximately 10.30am.

“We are working closely with the police to apprehend the individuals involved.

“I can confirm that no staff or customers were injured during the incident.”

Jason Thorne, area risk consultant for G4S Cash Solutions (UK) Ltd, said: “A member of our cash crew was the victim of a brazen attack during a routine service at a Barclays Bank branch in Queensferry.

“Fortunately our colleague has not been injured. We are working closely with the police and I would urge anyone who may have seen this attack to get in touch with the police or dial 101 so that those behind it can be brought to justice.”

DI Eleri Thomas said: “I am appealing for anyone who saw the offenders enter or leave the bank and especially to anyone who may have filmed the incident on their phone or caught images on their dashcam to call police on 101 quoting ref W049276.”
