LIVERPOOL legend Joey Jones has predicted goals, goals, goals in tonight Champions’ League quarter-final classic at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s Reds host Premier League champions-elect Manchester City - and Jones, who lifted the European Cup with Liverpool back in 1977 - sees no reason why there won’t be a repeat of the 4-3 thriller when Pep Guardiola’s side last visited in January.

“Everyone expected City to win everything this season - even the Grand National!” said Jones. “But Liverpool showed in that 4-3 win that if you have a go at them, you have a chance.

“And I really do think there will be goals tonight because there are so many good players on both sides.

“Liverpool are great going forward but not that good at the back while if you attack too much against City, they can be so quick and dangerous on the counter.”

Tonight’s clash will evoke memories of Jones’ great European Cup nights at Anfield during his Liverpool career and the 63-year-old Wrexham and Wales fans’ favourite has a permanent reminder of his time there.

A copy of the famous ‘Joey ate the frogs legs, made the Swiss roll and now he’s munchin gladbachs’ banner is hung up on one of the stands at Anfield.

“I had the original banner in my garage for 20 years and and I thought the best thing to do was to hand it to the Liverpool club museum,” said Jones, who played 72 times for the Merseysiders from 1975 to 1978.

“They didn’t put it up so the banner went back to Phil Downey, the fan who made it. I think as much of that banner as I do the winners’ medal, When I saw it at Rome, I couldn’t believe it.”

Jones, who hasn’t been to Anfield since watching Stan Collymore’s goalscoring debut against Sheffield Wednesday in 1995, was back in Merseyside last year to celebrate the 40th anniversary of that 3-1 European Cup Final win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

“The European Cup is a different format these days,” added Jones. “You had to almost win every game in our day. But it’s still a great competition and tonight’s game should be very interesting.”

Reds defender Andy Robertson (pictured right) insists Liverpool have no reason to be afraid tonight and said: “I don’t think we can be afraid. They won’t be afraid of us and we won’t be afraid of them.

“They’ve been the best team in our league this season and are going to win the league, undoubtedly, but this is two games in the Champions League, a one-off. We have as much right to be in the quarter-finals as they do.

“Their movement is a joy to watch at times, and as a defender you need to be aware of that, but hopefully we’ll be attacking as well and we can push them back into areas where they don’t want to go.”
