AWAITING DETAILS ON PICS

HUGE flooding in a rural area is an accident waiting to happen, a resident has warned.

Denise Hambidge, of Brynford, near Holywell, said the B5121 leading from Brynford to Lixwm is a "small swimming pool" in wetter weather due to the council's failure to address the drainage issues in the area.

Ms Hambidge, and her partner Mike Briscoe, have alerted Flintshire council to the severe floods on Lixwm Road (B5121) four times since the issue began in August 2017.

Ms Hambidge said: "The issue is obviously not so bad in the summer, but when it rains like it is at the moment, the road becomes very dangerous.

"The puddle is like a small stream, and it even comes up our drive. It gets very, very bad in this weather and it's just an accident waiting to happen.

"Our house is on a 60mph road, and we're in a dip after a brow of hill on a bad bend as it is. When cars see the puddle they end up driving on the wrong side of the road to avoid it. With cars driving on both sides of the road it's just so dangerous.

"We have had to stop reversing out now because of the flooding and because cars go too fast. The council haven't even put flood warning signs, and when we've been in touch, they just don't want to know.

"It's gone beyond a joke now."

Ms Hambidge said the water used to flow away, but in recent months, the drainage system has become blocked and has not been attended to.

She added: "The council can't act quickly enough. It is a public road and something needs be done."

Steve Jones, chief officer for streetscene and transportation at Flintshire Council, said: “Flintshire County Council is aware of flooding on the B5121.

"The site has been inspected and the area has been attended by operatives conducting investigations on the drainage system to remove a blockage in an attempt to resolve the situation.”
