A WREXHAM leisure centre is earmarked for a £50,000 upgrade which will see its pool changing facilities improved.

The work at Waterworld has already seen the refurbishment of the lockers in the changing area and the next phase will focus on wall cladding and ceiling retiling in two communal shower areas, while new lighting will also be installed to make the area brighter and more inviting.

New eco shower fittings will complete the work to lessen the impact on water consumption.

Freedom Leisure, the centre operators on behalf of Wrexham Council, plans to start the work on March 12.

Its Leisure Area Manager Andy Harris, said: “The original building with pools was built in the 1970s and had a major refurbishment in 1997 when the current changing village facilities were added.

"After 20 years it is not surprising the area is showing its age and we are delighted to be working with the council to give it a fresh makeover.

“We ask that customers bear with us over the coming weeks as we get the work done. We will work on one area at a time to minimise disruption and plan to have it completed in time for the Easter school holiday.”

Further work is planned for mid-April when the work could include a refurbishment of private shower cubicles and creation of two private parent/child cubicles, along with a spruce up of the vanity areas.
