Three women and a young girl escaped unhurt after a collision led to one vehicle being upended.

The collision, involving three cars on Constitution Hill from Leeswood to Pontblyddyn, was proof of the testing conditions after the "beast from the east" arrived in Flintshire.

North Wales Police attended the scene shortly before 8.30am yesterday.

Gemma Doughty, of Leeswood, said: "We've all walked away without a scratch and it's a miracle that nobody was hurt."

She is now urging other motorists to take extra care in the weather conditions - even if roads look usable, and even if gritters seem to have been out on roads.

The antiques dealer spoke to the Leader after the incident, saying she heard " the worst sounding crash I've ever heard in my life" and thought she was going to die.

A North Wales police spokesman said: "We were called at 8.26am to a car turned over on Constitution Hill, involving a blue Mercedes, a black Volvo, and a white Peugeot which were all recovered.

"No injuries were reported and the whole thing was cleared by 10.30am."

The snowy weather disruption also saw the closure of three schools in Wrexham and 40 schools in Flintshire yesterday.

Flintshire Council was also forced to "double-up" their waste and gritter services on their rounds as many Flintshire roads suffered heavy snowfall in the small hours of yesterday morning.

Steve Jones of Streetscene said: "Waste collection rounds are all out working with the exception of our small rural scatter round and one of our gritters has been sent to support the waste rounds where required. All of our Household Recycling Centres are now open however, we will continue to monitor the situation for all waste services over the coming days."
