Pupils celebrated after winning a national award.

Hafod Y Wern youngsters won the primary school category of the Welsh Government's Safer Internet Day competition.

Year 5 and 6 pupils created a video as part of the event, which showcases competition entries in which learners explored how being online made them feel and expressed their feelings through the medium of word, film, music or art.

The pupils had been due to travel down to Cardiff for the occasion but bad weather prevented them from going so they gathered at the school to watch the ceremony online.

Kirsty Williams AM, Cabinet Secretary for Education announced the winners of the Safer Internet Day competition.

Hundreds of entries to the competition were received this year

St Peters RC Primary School in Cardiff were runners up to Hafod Y Wern– with a poem written by a Year 3 class.

Headteacher Simon Edwards said: "There were 300 contestants. Unfortunately due to bad weather we were unable to attend so had a live link via Skype.

"The pupils watched and listened live to Kirsty Williams' speech and were thrilled with the fantastic achievement when it was announced."
