THE great and the good of Welsh football will descend on Park Hall, in Oswestry, to mark the career of Timmy Edwards on May 22.

It is hoped thousands of pounds will be raised for the baby care unit at Bodelwyddan Hospital in North Wales.

The former TNS, Bangor City, Newtown, Rhyl, Technogroup Welshpool and Cefn Druids central defender will see his top flight career recognised by his peers.

Co-organiser Terry Ingram, who worked alongside Edwards at Welshpool last season, said the event had received national interest.

“Everyone knows Timmy and everyone we have asked to come along has said they will do so.

“Some people are going to great lengths to make sure they get to Oswestry for the game, such is the great respect everyone in the game has for Timmy.”

The event starts with three academy games between TNS and Rhyl - the two clubs Edwards remains most synonymous with having skippered both to Welsh Premier title success.

The main game will start at 2pm and will be followed by a charity auction of several signed football items.

Among those who have already pledged their support is Caersws legend Hugh Clarke and Newtown defender Andrew Thomas, along with former team-mate Darren Ryan.

Llanelli coach Gary Lloyd has agreed to turn out for the match as well as former TNS team-mates Garry Evans and Aneurin Thomas

Port Talbot manager Mark Jones and goalkeeper Lee Kendall represent their club, while Steve Rogers and Andy Moran of Prestatyn Town will also be in action.

On the day Edwards’ team will be managed by former TNS and Newtown manager Graham Breeze and recently departed Welshpool manager Huw Griffiths.

Their opposition will be an All star team managed by former Liverpool legend Joey Jones, ex-Newtown manager Roger Preece and current Welsh under 23s international manager Terry Boyle .

Ingram added: “Support has already been shown by all of Tim’s old clubs, especially TNS who are letting us have the venue for the whole day a for nothing.

“We are hoping to have representative players from every top flight club and hopefully we will raise an lot of money for the baby care unit and Bodelwddan Hospital.

“One of Tim's children spent some time in the unit and as such is a charity very close to his heart.”
