NEWTOWN Football Club have defended their decision to remove an article from their official club website.

The club opted to remove comments made by Graham Breeze which derided the Welsh Premier organisation as “unprofessional”.

The comments made by the former TNS and Newtown manager were also reported in last week’s County Times.

Club secretary Owen Durbridge said: “As a club we have an enormous amount of respect for Graham Breeze and some of us have sympathies with some of his views in the article in question.

“However as a club we do not support his views and feel the current staff at the Welsh Football Association are extremely helpful, particularly to our club.”

Durbridge also called for patience to allow new secretary general Jonathan Ford time to settle.

Ford took over from the controversial David Collins in January, but has since failed to comment on the big issues facing the domestic game.

However Durbridge insisted: “He deserves a chance to settle in and start to make changes, which we all agree are needed, to the set up of the council and hopefully the marketing of the league.

“We would like to see some changes made at the FAW, but from an inside perspective, Newtown AFC receives a lot of help and is grateful.”
