Purely divine food at the superb Druid Inn

IF YOU’RE looking for good quality home-cooked food and a cosy atmosphere then the Druid Inn is the place to go.

Situated on Wrexham Road in Pontblyddyn, this stone-built pub represents everything a traditional pub should be.

Exposed wooden beams, open fires and the original features give the pub a real old-fashioned yet homely feel.

We settled ourselves in a cosy nook in front of a roaring fire.

It was great to escape the freezing temperatures outside to relax and enjoy the serene atmosphere of the Druid Inn.

The attentive and friendly waitress swiftly came over to take our drinks order while we perused the extensive menu.

We were spoilt for choice with the vast array of mouthwatering dishes to tempt your tastebuds.

It was good to see the venue offered traditional British pub food including garlic mushrooms and prawn cocktail to start and fish and chips and sausage and mash for the main course.

It was also pleasing to note that smaller versions of some of the main courses were available on the ‘lighter meals’ menu.

My friend and I both settled for the smaller portion of the chef’s sausages of the day, with onion gravy and mashed potato.

To say it was delicious is an understatement.

The sausages were succulent and cooked to perfection. The mash was of the ideal consistency and the onion gravy had an underlying sweet taste to it, which was just divine.

Even though we ordered lighter meals the portions were plentiful and despite the tempting choices on offer we unfortunately had no room for dessert.

But for those with a sweet tooth there’s a great array of desserts to choose from including sticky toffee pudding, homemade cheesecake and chocolate fudge cake.

Overall the service was great, the atmosphere was welcoming and the food was delicious and great value for money.

I for one will certainly be making a return visit.
