A TRIBUTE concert is to be held in memory of a teenage cyclist.

Joy Soffe, 13, of Mare Hey Lane, Ewloe, was killed after her bicycle was involved in a collision with a car while she was riding on the A550 on Chester Road, Dobshill in July.

Heartbroken family members, friends and students will gather for Northop Brass Band’s special musical celebration of her life at Hawarden High School on Friday.

Joy was a talented percussionist and cellist who had played with the band for a number of years.

Douglas Watts, chairman of the band management committee, said: “This is a tribute concert for Joy. We were all saddened and shocked by her death.

“She was a very popular and well-liked member of the band.”

The band’s senior, junior and training sections will all perform, with two of the songs chosen by Joy’s family.

Her family described the Hawarden High School pupil as their “pride and joy” while headteacher Roger Davies called her “exceptionally talented and highly motivated”.

Northop Brass Band is in the process of purchasing trophies to be awarded in her honour.

The concert will be held on Friday at 7.15pm with tickets costing £5. Proceeds will be split between the band, in accordance with the family’s wishes, and a charity yet to be decided.
