TWO couples have stumbled upon a remarkable set of coincidences as they both celebrate their golden wedding anniversaries.

Berwyn “Jack” and Hilary Morris, of Gwersyllt, and Harold and Lynda Richards, of Rhos, did not know each other in their youth but both couples were married on Friday, September 23, 1961, at the exact same time of day, and later shared a train carriage to their chosen honeymoon destination of London.

But it was only by a chance meeting that the couple of couples realised how much they had in common.

Unbeknown to the Morris’s, their daughter Susan Davies, 44, lived across the street from the Richards’ and when the group got talking at one of Susan’s barbecues they made the happy discovery.

Susan said: “None of us could believe the coincidence.

“To think they had been married at the same time and sat on the same train on the way to their honeymoon is incredible.”

Jack, a 77-year-old retired managing director of Kent Supplies Builders Merchants, and Hilary, a 74-year-old retired lollipop lady, married in their 20s at St Giles’ Church, Wrexham.

The “inseparable” duo celebrated their 50th anniversary of that special day with a weekend away in Pwllheli with daughter Susan, her husband Geraint and their children Joseph and Rebecca, and son Anthony, his wife Ita and their children Charlotte and triplets Luke, Daragh and Sam.

The Richards’, a retired caretaker and dinner lady, celebrated with a meal at The Hand Hotel, Chirk, with their sons Dafydd and Aled and his wife Carys.
