A TEENAGER is in hospital with a serious head injury after a suspected assault at a village skate park.

The injured boy – named locally as 14-year-old Josh Lynch – was first taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital, where staff called police to say he had been brought in.

He was later transferred to a specialist unit at Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool.

The suspected attack took place at the skate park in Coedpoeth, near Wrexham, on Sunday evening. Another teenager is currently helping police with their investigation.

A spokesman for North Wales Police, who have not named the injured boy, said:
“We received a call from the hospital at 8.15pm with a report of a young teenager having sustained a serious head injury in a suspected assault at the skate park in Coepoeth.

“Another young teenage boy is helping police with their enquiries.”

Josh is a pupil at St Joseph’s Catholic and Anglican High School in Wrexham.

Headteacher Maria Rimmer conveyed the school’s hopes for him to make a full recovery.

She said: “The thoughts and prayers of the whole school community are with Josh and his family at this difficult time.

“We respect the family’s need for privacy.”

David Bamber, clerk to Coedpoeth Community Council, said, as far as he knew, the skate park in Penygelli did not have a record of anti-social behaviour or any other trouble.

He added: “We have been informed by the police there was an incident at the skate park and I have informed all our members about this.”

A number of Josh’s friends have sent their best wishes to him on his Facebook page.

Leah Cooper posted: “Josh hope you’re okay.”
