VANDALS caused thousands of pounds worth of damage in a late-night wrecking spree.

Cars were left with slashed tyres, broken wing mirrors, broken wipers and scratched paintwork during the attacks on Mold Road and Red Hall Avenue in Connah’s Quay.

Furious residents were left shocked and disgusted after 20 vehicles were damaged overnight between Sunday evening and Monday morning.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, said her son suffers from breathing difficulties and she was left stranded after her car’s back tyre was slashed.

She said: “I normally take my son to hospital in the car, but if anything would have happened we would have had to use an ambulance. I am furious. I keep thinking, what would have happened if he would have been ill?

“Nobody heard a thing. I am devastated. I do not understand how anyone could do this.”

One resident, who also did not want to be named, says he will have to pay more than £60 to replace a slashed tyre on his car.

He said: “I’m gutted. It is going to cost a lot of money. When you add it all up, it is going to cost thousands. This is really bad. Those who did this are idiots.”

Some cars had all four tyres slashed and profanities were scratched into the paintwork.

North Wales Police are now appealing for witnesses.

So far they have had reports of damage to a red Renault Clio a white Kia, a red Vauxhall Corsa, a black Alfa Romeo and a red Toyota Yaris on Mold Road and a silver Ford Zetec was damaged in Red Hall Avenue.

But residents say the figure is much higher.

Mark Davies who has lived in the area for more than 30 years, said: “I’ve never known anything like this before. This is just madness. They are idiots.”

Jordan Parry added: “All the cars down here have been damaged. My girlfriend’s mum’s car was damaged and she had to walk to work. Nobody heard a thing.”
