THE family of a man fighting for his life after a car crash have spoken of their anguish following the incident.

Daniel Davies, 20, from Gwersyllt, Wrexham was injured when the blue Citroen Saxo car he was travelling to work in, with friend Ryan Partington, left the A550 road near Penyffordd and collided with a tree yesterday morning.

Both men were taken to the Wrexham Maelor Hospital following the crash and Mr Davies, known as Danny, was later transferred to the Walton Centre in Liverpool.

The A550 was closed in both directions following the crash at around 6.45am between the roundabouts at Rhos Brynia Farm and Dobshill. Commuters faced tailbacks as traffic was diverted through Penyffordd until the road reopened at around 11.30am.

Speaking to the Leader yesterday afternoon, Danny’s mum Karen Murphy said her son had serious head injuries.

“At the moment they’re saying his condition is life-threatening,” she said.

“The first thing we knew about it was when the police knocked on our door.”

Karen said Danny was a passenger in the car on his way to work at Deeside Recycling Centre with his friend Ryan, who he met at Rhosnesni High School, when the crash happened. She described Danny, who has two sisters Emily, 24, and Cassie, 16, as “a fun lad”.

“He likes his motorbikes and his cars,” she said. “He’s never any trouble to anyone.”

The family were heading to Liverpool yesterday to be by his bedside.

A spokesman for the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Buckley and Deeside attended and technical rescue equipment was sent from Wrexham.

He added: “Two persons were released by the fire service and the vehicle was made safe.”

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed one of the men had life threatening injuries and the other was suffering from multiple serious injuries.

He said: “Three ambulances, two officers and two BASICS doctors attended the incident.”

North Wales Police are appealing for the driver of a red Vauxhall Vectra who may have witnessed the crash to contact them.

The car had a spoiler, a plastic bar, attached to its boot.

The driver of the Vectra, or anyone else who saw the incident, is asked to call police on 101 if in Wales or 08456071001 for the Welsh language line or 08456071002 for the English language line.
