PUPILS across Flintshire are celebrating after an excellent set of examination results.

The county’s schools were packed yesterday morning as thousands of nervous teenagers opened their results and found out how they had done.

Many schools continued to build on past successes posting record-breaking results, much to the delight of proud teachers and parents.

Flintshire Council said figures from the Welsh Examining Board (WJEC) show the A* to G pass rate for pupils in Flintshire stands at 99.4per cent, equalling last year’s record results.

The figure is higher than the Welsh average of 98.7 per cent.

A* to C passes across Flintshire stand at 72 per cent of all full course examinations taken, an increase of 2.1 per cent on last year.

Pupils gaining A and A* grades are up on last year’s figure to 18.6 per cent.

The total number of subject entries by Flintshire pupils is slightly down on last year, reflecting a decrease across Wales, with lower overall numbers of pupils and increased entries for courses other than GCSE.

Ian Budd, the council’s director of lifelong learning, said: “The council is pleased to offer its congratulations to the pupils, teachers, parents and carers of Flintshire for these excellent GCSE results.

“They are a result of the commitment and hard work of our pupils. Our young people can move forward with confidence into further education in Flintshire.

“The council warmly congratulates all our pupils upon their success.”

Cllr Nigel Steele-Mortimer, executive member for lifelong learning, said: “I congratulate the pupils on their results this year. The results demonstrate the hard work of pupils and teaching staff in Flintshire schools.”
