THE future of Wrexham FC is balanced on a knife’s edge on the eve of a meeting that could change the club’s history forever.

Tomorrow night members of the Wrexham Supporters Trust will meet to discuss whether they should press ahead with a takeover of the club.

Wrexham FC has been hit by crisis after crisis in recent months.

Last month footballers refused to play a number of pre-season games after their wages did not arrive on time.

Dedicated fans also rallied round to raise more than £100,000 as part of tough requirements needed for it to continue in the Blue Square Premiership

Speaking about the potential challenges ahead Richard Green, chief executive of the WST, said although tomorrow’s meeting was important it was one of a number of issues which would have to be resolved if the trust was to be successful in taking charge of the club.

“We have made it clear it is very important for our members to have the opportunity to vote on the proposals in front of them,” said Mr Green.

“The meeting is one of the major steps forward and it is not for me to pre-judge what the outcome will be.”

Mr Green said even if the members decide in favour of a take over, the trust would still need the approval of the football authorities before any deal could be finally completed.

Mr Green said he could not yet give a time frame for the potential takeover.

County councillor and member of the trust Phil Wynn said if WST took over Wrexham FC it was important there was strong support for the club from the community to help turn its fortunes around.

Wrexham FC owner Geoff Moss was unavailable for comment.

- PLANS are underway to change the name of Wrexham’s ground following the stadium’s purchase by Glyndwr University.

A spokesman for the university said: “We can confirm an intention to name the ground the Glyndwr University Racecourse Stadium. This is still subject to confirmation. The choice of name reflects the identity of both the university and of the ground itself.

“Glyndwr will continue to explore ways to use the stadium for educational and community purposes, without compromising the activities of Wrexham FC.”
