A NEW medical centre promising improved health services is taking shape in Mold.

Work is now well under way on the new Mold Primary Care Centre, due to provide improved facilities for more than 8,000 patients.

Developers Apollo Capital Projects say the centre is on track for completion by May next year.

The new centre at a site off the New Street car park will see two medical practices transfer from the limited accommodation they currently occupy, with medical bosses believing better facilities will be provided by the changes.

The move will see The Grosvenor Street Practice, also known as Dr Beckett’s Surgery, and The Bradley Practice move into the spacious two-storey building.

Practice managers at both surgeries say patients and staff are excited about the move.

“We’re looking forward to moving in there,” said Mike O’Gara, practice manager for Dr Beckett’s Surgery.

“There will be a lot more room and we will be able to provide a lot more services for patients.”

Welcome new facilities will include a minor operations room and a multi-function room suitable for larger group meetings and clinics.

“At present patients needing minor operations would have to go to Mold Hospital but they would be able to have the operations as part of a regular consultation with a nurse,” said Mr O’Gara.

Additional space has also been included to allow for further expansion to accommodate any growth in patient numbers and the introduction of new services.

Both GP practices will retain their own distinct identity, emphasised by the interior design which will be complimented by local art features in the main entrance lobby and waiting areas.

Vanessa Peters, practice manager for the Bradley Practice, said they had been told in a couple of months they should be able to look around inside once the building has been rainproofed.

She said: “Everyone is saying how speedily the building is going up, it’s quite surprising.

“We will have more room at the new centre and it will be easier. At the moment we have to see patients upstairs but come downstairs for those who can’t climb the stairs.”

Mold councillor Haydyn Bateman said: “It's all going to plan and everybody seems pleased with the work so far. It's going to be a big benefit to the town with good parking facilities and a marvellous building.”
