A PUB employee has admitted stealing more than £10,000 in takings.

Andrew Benson Cannell, 28, pleaded guilty to stealing four bags of money from the safe at The Gold Cape in Mold town centre.

Deputy District Judge Gwyn Jones, sitting at Flintshire Magistrates Court at Mold yesterday ruled sentencing should take place in the crown court.

Cannell, of St Mark’s Road in Saltney, admitted stealing a total of £10,505 belonging to Wetherspoons between July 12 and July 28 in what was described as a breach of trust case.

Prosecutor David Boycott said the cash takings had been deposited in the safe.
It was alleged that in July he had helped himself to four bags of the cash.

The prosecutor said £7,685 was still outstanding.

Defending solicitor Ceri Evans said but for the outstanding money she would be making representations the case should remain before magistrates.

Judge Jones said he took the view the sentencing powers of the magistrates court was inadequate.

Cannell was bailed to appear at Mold Crown Court in September.

In the meantime he is not to enter The Gold Cape.

The court heard an application under The Proceeds of Crime Act would also be made.
