SIX people were rushed to hospital after a horrific crash yesterday.

A teenager, who has not been named, was taken to the Wrexham Maelor Hospital suffering serious head injuries in the head-on collision at the junction of the A5 and B5605 between Chirk and Froncysyllte.

The teenager, who is believed to be in his mid-teens, was later transferred to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.

Five other people, all understood to be female, were taken to the Maelor Hospital in Wrexham after the crash involving a black Ford Puma and a silver Peugeot 306 shortly after 10am.

Emergency services had to release occupants from the vehicles and one car had to have its roof cut off.

A spokesman for North Wales Fire Ambulance Service said three ambulances were sent to the scene.

“Four female casualties with minor injuries were taken to the Maelor,” he said.

“A further female patient with back pain was also taken to the Maelor. A male casualty with serious injuries was also taken to the same hospital.”

Police remained at the scene for several hours and the two cars were towed away at about 1pm.

As a result of the crash, which occurred just yards from the UK Garage, motorists on the busy A5 were held up.

Garage employee Emma Davies said: “I didn’t see the collision but I heard a loud bang. There have been a lot of police here during the day.

“We hope everyone involved is alright.”

Cllr Geraint Roberts, vice-chairman of Llangollen Rural Community Council, is calling for new road safety measures at the junction.

He said: “I am concerned to hear about this collision. We have had previous road concerns here and I would welcome the introduction of traffic lights as a means of helping control the traffic.

“There is a lot of traffic using this road and there are only two lanes, so it is a problem.”
