A 35-YEAR-old man was killed when his car hit a tree.

The crash happened on the A483 near Rossett.

The driver of the car, a Honda, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police were called to the scene just after 6.45am yesterday after reports of the collision near junction seven.

Police say the victim is not local to the Wrexham area.

The exact time of the accident has not been established and police are anxious to hear from anyone who had been on that stretch of road in the early hours of the morning.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent two appliances from Wrexham together with the technical rescue unit.

The police helicopter and police dogs assisted in a search of the area and one lane of the northbound carriageway was closed for nearly four hours while officers carried out investigations.

The driver’s next of kin have been informed.

Police are now appealing for anyone who may have been travelling on the A483 between midnight and 6.46am yesterday, and who may have witnessed the collision or seen the car, to contact the roads policing unit by phoning 101 if in Wales, 0845 6071001, or 0845 6071002 for the English line.

County councillor for Rossett Hugh Jones said: “It is very sad that someone has lost their life in this accident. We don’t know the cause of the collision and so can’t say anything further at this stage.”
