TWO caravans were destroyed and the interiors of a further two gutted in a dramatic fire last night.

Three fire crews were called to the Abbey Farm Caravan Park in Llantysilio, near Llangollen.

Marguerita Jones was staying in one of the caravans which were badly damaged.

She raised the alarm at 6.54pm when she saw the caravan next to hers on fire as she was returning from the toilet block.

“It started with the awning, then a gas bottle went up and the whole thing just shot up,” she said.

“There were flames through the roof.”

Mrs Jones said she had left her husband, Sydney, taking a nap and in the time it took her to walk to and from the toilets, the whole of the neighbouring caravan had gone up in flames.

She called to her husband to wake up and called out to the burning caravan where there was a woman inside.

“She had to run out through the flames,” said Margeurita, who said she also to free her dog, who tethered outside the caravan.

Two men had been sitting outside the other razed caravan before the fire, but had left the scene.

Marguerita and Sydney had been staying in their daughter Jeanette’s caravan.
Jeanette Woolrich and her husband, Billy, turned up to the scene and were shocked by the damage.

Billy said they had owned their caravan, which had cost £7,000, for five years, .

Crews from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service are now investigating the cause of the blaze.
