A MAN was viciously assaulted in a late night gang attack.

The man, named locally as John Morris, was assaulted on Wern Avenue in Bagillt on Monday evening.

Mr Morris, believed to be in his late 30s and from Bagillt, was taken by ambulance to Glan Clwyd Hospital following the incident, where he is still being treated for his injuries.

Three young local men, said by police to be in their late teens or early 20s, have been arrested following the assault.

Bagillt community councillor Andrew Griffiths is calling for increased police presence in the village following the attack, which follows a spate of vandalism at Bagillt Library last month and the theft of lead from the roof of Bagillt Community Centre on Friday.

He said: “The policing in the village needs to be looked at. A man has been attacked and is now in hospital.”

One resident from the village, who asked not to be named, said: “The whole community is upset over it. He was a frail chap.”

The attack on Mr Morris follows a man in his 50s who was attacked in a vicious daylight robbery in nearby Greenfield last month.

The man was left with cuts and bruises after his wallet and mobile phone were taken during the robbery near the Tesco store in Holywell.

A spokesman for North Wales Police said they were called to Wern Avenue just after 11.45pm on Monday evening following reports a man had been assaulted.

She said: “Three local men have now been arrested. Two have been bailed pending further inquiries and one is currently being interviewed.

“The assaulted man was taken to hospital with facial injuries which are not deemed to be life threatening.”

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed they took a male to Glan Clwyd Hospital following the incident and a spokeswoman for Glan Clwyd Hospital described Mr Morris’ condition as “comfortable”.
