A LANDMARK deal between Glyndwr University and the owners of Wrexham FC was sealed today.

The university is to buy The Racecourse stadium and Colliers Park training ground after reaching agreement with Wrexham FC directors Geoff Moss and Ian Roberts.

Professor Michael Scott, vice chancellor of the university, said the best interests of the club and the community were at the heart of the deal.

He said: “We want to reassure the Wrexham FC fan base and the community that we are doing this for Wrexham.

“We don’t know what the financial situation is at the club, but we have done this in their best interests so the club can continue.”

For the past six weeks bosses at the university have been locked in talks with both the club’s owners and the Wrexham Supporters Trust (WST), which is looking to take on Wrexham FC.

The idea for university involvement in The Racecourse was the brainchild of Prof Scott.
