AFTER a wet and humid start yesterday, the Eisteddfod blossomed into a beautiful summer’s afternoon for visitors to delight in.

Large crowds gathered to enjoy all the activities at the site and stands reported plenty of interest from visitors.

Among the stalls with a local flavour, the Wrexham Supporters Trust members were delighted with the continued generosity being shown.

Board member Brian Cameron said that on Tuesday alone they had received more than £200 in donations towards the trust’s push to take control of Wrexham FC.

“People have been fantastic and the interest definitely just hasn’t come from Wrexham,” he said.

“We’ve had a gentleman from Cardiff joining the trust and someone else has bought one of our shirts for a relative over in Australia. We would like to thank everyone who has given us such tremendous backing.”

Food delights took centre stage at the Yale College stand. Communications officer Graham Frost said the college was focusing on a different theme each day and for Tuesday it was catering.

“We’ve been doing a number of demonstrations which have been proving really popular. On Wednesday, we will have an equine theme,” added Graham.

With temperatures soaring, youngsters were having a splashing time with a coracle boat ride pool provided by the Association of Voluntary Organisations in Wrexham (AVOW).

And at the stand itself people were able to find out about all the work AVOW carries out in the community.

Two North Wales Police officers were recognised at the Eisteddfod for promoting the Welsh language within the force.

PC Sian Williams received the North Wales Police Learner of the Year award for her hard work to develop her Welsh skills.

And DC Julie Roberts received the North Wales Police Welsh Language Champion of the Year prize for her effort in encouraging staff to improve and use Welsh.

Sian works with the investigative support team based in St Asaph. Julie is based in Professional Standards in Colwyn Bay.

Among the guests expected to the Eisteddfod field today will be First Minister Carwyn Jones.

He will be carrying out a range of duties, including presenting the prize for the Welsh Government school arts competition and attending the launch of Community Housing Cymru’s new bilingual magazine.
