MOTORISTS are being warned of major traffic disruption as the National Eisteddfod gets under way this weekend.

A host of diversions and restrictions are being put in place to cope with the large volume of traffic expected at the eisteddfod in Wrexham, but council officers say everything will be done to keep delays to a minimum.

The Eisteddfod takes place at Lower Berse Farm, from Saturday until Saturday, August 6, and will occupy the fields between the A525 Ruthin Road and B5099 Bersham Road.

Cllr David Bithell, Wrexham Council’s lead member for environment and transport, said: “The National Eisteddfod attracts large volumes of traffic and delays are expected to occur at some of the locations around the area and at busy interchanges.

“We appreciate people’s patience and every effort will be made to keep these delays to a minimum.”

The following restrictions will be in place throughout the event:
l A525 Ruthin Road, Wrexham, will be one-way from Berse Lane to Croesnewydd Road with traffic only allowed to travel towards Wrexham.

Outbound traffic will be diverted via A5152 Victoria Road, A5152 Rhostyllen and A483 Wrexham bypass.

l Homestead Lane will be one-way between Ruthin Road and Bersham Road, with traffic travelling towards Ruthin Road.

Traffic travelling towards Bersham Road will be diverted via Ruthin Road, Victoria Road and Bersham Road

l B5098 Berse Lane will be closed to all through traffic and will be used for access to eisteddfod car parks only.

l B5099 Bersham Road will be one way between Bersham Royal British Legion and Homestead Lane with traffic travelling towards Wrexham.

Traffic travelling towards Bersham will be diverted via the A5152 Victoria Road, A5152 Rhostyllen.

There will also be some speed restrictions in place on the routes around the site.

The car parks for the eisteddfod will all be situated off Berse Lane, which runs parallel to the A483 Wrexham bypass between Ruthin Road and Bersham Road.

Traffic travelling from the south will be directed from the A483 at junction 3 (Croesfoel roundabout) then on to the B5605 towards Ruabon and immediately right on to Croesfoel Lane.

Temporary traffic signals will be in place at this location to assist with road safety and minimise delays.

Traffic travelling from the north will be directed from the A483 at junction 4 (A525 Ruthin Road) then on to the A525 and immediately right on to Berse Lane.

No roadworks will take place in the immediate area between July 28 and August 7.
