A TEENAGER has been arrested after an attempted knife raid at a pawnbrokers.

The 18-year-old man was arrested shortly after the attempted robbery at the Streets of Gold store on Cross Street, Holywell, on Friday morning.

It comes just days after a raid on a jewellery shop in Queensferry.

A man entered the store and demanded money from a male member of staff after brandishing a knife, but fled empty handed.

No-one was injured during the incident.

Shortly after police swooped on a property in the town and made an arrest on suspicion of attempted robbery.

One town centre shopkeeper, who did not want to be named, said: “It is terrible for something like this to happen in Holywell. We didn’t see anything. We didn’t realise what had happened until we saw the police.”

CID officers from Holywell interviewed witnesses and a forensic team attended the scene, cordoning off the shop.

A spokesman for North Wales Police said: “Police were alerted just before 11am of an attempted robbery whereby a man had entered the shop and demanded money from the staff present.

“Nobody was injured during the incident and nothing was taken.

“Officers attended and a man was arrested a short time later at a property in Holywell on suspicion of attempted robbery and is now awaiting questioning at Wrexham custody.”

Detective Inspector Jason Davenport said police were keeping an open mind in relation to a link with the raid by a masked man at the Gold Shop on Station Road, Queensferry, on Tuesday.

Nobody at the shop was available for comment.

A notice in the shop window on Friday said they were closed temporarily due to unforeseen circumstances and they would open as soon as possible.
