A GANG of hoodies attacked a man in a vicious daylight robbery.

The man, in his 50s, was left with cuts and bruises after his wallet and mobile phone were taken during the robbery near the Tesco store in Holywell.

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses and information to trace the culprits.

The attack happened at about 5.30pm along the wooded pathway leading from the Greenfield Valley area, along the supermarket car park, towards the archway to the town centre.

The man was confronted by the group of young men who assaulted him and then fled towards The Strand area.

Det Insp Jason Devonport said: “One of the offenders in the group is described as being aged between 18 and 22-years-old, and was wearing a black coloured hooded top which was zipped up with the hood over his head.

“He also had a dark fringe and blue eyes, with a tanned complexion.

“Police inquiries are already under way and I’m urging anyone who witnessed the incident, who was in this area at the time and who may have seen the offenders before or after the incident to contact officers at Mold CID.”

The man was treated at the scene by paramedics and the North Wales Police helicopter was seen hovering over the area after the attack on Monday.

Holywell councillor Peter Curtis described the attack as cowardly and urged anyone with information to come forward.

He said: “I am very concerned. We need these thugs taken off the street.
“If people know who these people are then they have a duty to come forward.
“This is not something that usually happens in Holywell but once is once too many.”

North Wales Police are appealing to anybody with information to phone detectives at Mold CID on 101 (if in Wales) 0845 6071001 (Welsh language line) or 0845 6071002 (English language line).
