VANDALS have struck at a village library for the second time in as many weeks.

Yobs smashed three windows and damaged the front door at Bagillt Library in the early hours of Thursday.

In June staff discovered two large windows and plant pots had been smashed and a fence damaged at nearby community hall Beechcroft House.
Bagillt West councillor Mike Reece is urging anyone with information to contact police.

He said: “We are struggling to keep the library going as it is and then you get these mindless idiots who come along and spoil it for everyone.”

Librarian Ann Partridge added: “The mess is incredible.”

Bagillt Library was earmarked for closure by Flintshire Council along with the
Garden City and Gwernymynydd libraries after cuts of £10 million were made in its 2011/12 budget.

But hopes have been raised that Bagillt Community Council may step in and help to keep it open. A spokesman for North Wales Police said: “We had a call at 6.19am on June 30 reporting that there was an intruder at Bagillt Library. An investigation is under way.”

Lawrence Rawsthorne, head of culture and leisure at Flintshire Council, said: “Regrettably some extensive vandalism was carried out at Bagillt Library.

“The library was closed on Thursday but opened again on Friday, July 1.”

Anyone with information can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
