A WOMAN was put through a terrifying ordeal when she was grabbed by a burglar as he raided a home in Gresford.

The woman was held by the man while he was carrying out the burglary at a house on Chester Road yesterday morning.

Her ordeal began just after 8.30am when a man, thought to be in his late teens to early 20s, entered the property.

The intruder was disturbed by the woman who was then restrained by him.

She is not believed to have been injured but was left shocked by the incident, according to police.

They added a safe was stolen from the property and have made an appeal for witnesses.

Police said a safe recovered from the other side of Wrexham was initially linked to the incident, but later added it was not related.

Detective Sergeant Paul Kelly of North Wales Police said yesterday: “Police inquiries into the aggravated burglary are under way.

“A crime scene Investigator has been at the property and we are appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of Chester Road yesterday morning and saw anything suspicious to contact officers in Wrexham.

“Officers in the burglary unit are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the male, who was described as having dark hair, a pale complexion and smartly dressed in a white shirt and dark trousers, in the area this morning to contact us on 101 (if in Wales) or 0845 6071001 (Welsh language line) or 0845 6071002 (English language line).”

Witnesses can also contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A resident of Chester Road, who did not wish to be named, said she had witnessed lots of police activity outside the house during the morning.

A resident of the house where the theft is understood to have occurred did not wish to comment.
