BUDDING footballer Cameron Dodd loves nothing more than to practise his ball skills at the local pitch.

But now the six-year-old is set to play on a pitch considered sacred turf by millions of fans worldwide.

The Manchester United fan won the chance to play at Old Trafford after he impressed bosses at a soccer school organised by the club.

Cameron, from Pantasaph, joined 50 youngsters on the two-day development course at Glyndwr University, Wrexham, and will now play alongside Reds stars at a Champions Day.

Proud mum Angela, who enrolled her son on the course, said his win came as a complete surprise.

Angela, of St Clares Court, said: “Cameron was absolutely made up.

“He is a very good footballer but he was up against so much other talent that it was a real shock when they announced his name – especially because of his young age.

“They were just so impressed with his skills and thought he had real potential.

“Cameron was thrilled to bits.”

The action-packed player development courses are open to boys and girls aged between six and 16 years

Each player is challenged to learn new skills and tricks using state-of-the-art training equipment and also receives a player book and a goody bag.

Just one player from each course will be selected to attend Champions Day and a runner-up will win two Premier League tickets.

Cameron will follow in the footsteps of hero Wayne Rooney at the famous stadium in May 2012.

He will be joined by about 50 other youngsters who made the grade at soccer schools across the UK and Ireland.

Angela added: “Cameron will get his very own little kit and will get changed in the team changing room.

“Then he will run out from under the tunnel and play with the professional team members.

“It’s his dream come true.”

While he awaits his day at Old Trafford, Cameron, a pupil at Ysgol Gwenffrwd in Holywell, will continue to train with Holywell Town Juniors Football Club once a week and enjoy kickabouts with his dad Carl.
