NANTGLYN 9
CAERWYS 0
EIGHTEEN is the magic number for Nantglyn from their meetings with Caerwys this season.
Bryn Jones’ charges won 9-0 on their trip to Flintshire earlier in the campaign - and they repeated the trick for the return fixture with Caerwys on Thursday.
In fairness, Caerwys were down to the bare bones again and they had 55-year-old Steve Griffith starting the game in goal.
Star of the show as far as Nantglyn were concerned proved to be top scorer Geraint Jones, who scored four of his side’s nine goals, taking his tally for the summer up to 14 goals.
Home player-boss Bryn Jones yet again provided an impressive performance and he slotted in a brace of goals on the night, which included a second half spot kick.
Also at the double was Rhys Jones, with a goal in each half for the victors, while Gareth Lewis was the remaining Nantglyn scorer.
“It wasn’t that bad a game,” said joint-Caerwys manager John Owens.
“We played some quite decent football and we were unlucky not to get a goal in the first half.”
Dylan Thomas was the player who was just inches away from gaining some reward for Caerwys, but his shot from distance clattered against the Nantglyn crossbar.
There was a further opportunity for Andy Price before the interval, while in the second half the Flintshire side should have registered as Liam Vaughan missed a decent chance.
“We played some decent football, particularly in the midfield,” added Owens.
That was a viewpoint echoed by Nantglyn chairman Dei Bibby.
“They (Caerwys) played well, but they couldn’t score,” he said.
“They seemed to have a lot of the ball and to be honest, they never gave up and it was a good game.”
Steven Potter and Robin Jones both caught the eye in Nantglyn’s midfield.
