A MAN jailed for the horrific murder of a mother of one is fighting to clear his name.

Christopher Reed was ordered to serve a minimum of 30 years for what was described as a sadistic and possibly sexually motivated attack on Lorraine Jones,
from Leeswood, near Mold.

Reed stood trial in 2006 alongside Kathy Williams, who was convicted and jailed for 24 years.

Miss Jones, 45, was murdered at the couple’s Ellesmere Port flat in 2005 and her badly beaten body was found in a beauty spot near Bala, Snowdonia.

But Reed claimed he was asleep while his girlfriend beat, stabbed and strangled Miss Jones and that North Wales Police has withheld evidence he believes will clear him of the murder.

He says a police officer from the force gave false information stating his blood-stained shirt and jeans had been dumped in a ditch when they were, according to Reed, in a police station along with CCTV footage proving his innocence.

Reed’s fight is now being backed by campaign group Joint Enterprise – Not Guilty by Association (JENGbA).

Gloria Morrison, co-ordinator for JENGbA, said: “Chris has been trying to get evidence from the police for some years.

“His solicitor has now written to North Wales Police and Cheshire Police to see if he can obtain it.

“Chris insists he was in the same set of clothes before and after the murder which were not those blood-stained clothes found in a ditch.

“JENGbA is helping him to recover evidence from police.”

North Wales Police has refused to comment on the allegations.
