THE family of a schoolboy who died suddenly after suffering a suspected asthma attack have paid tribute to their “remarkable little boy”.

Adam Winfindale, eight, a pupil at Victoria Junior School in Poyser Street, Wrexham, suffered breathing difficulties at a children’s laser-quest party at Quasar in Volunteer Street, Chester, on Sunday.

He was taken by ambulance to the Countess of Chester Hospital, but despite doctors’ attempts to save him he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

A tribute from the family said: “He was a very popular, bright and achieving pupil and will be sadly missed by his school friends and teaching staff.

“Adam was also an enthusiastic member of the 6th Wrexham Cubs, achieving many awards; a member of the Wrexham Tennis Academy; and enjoyed regular swimming lessons.

“Adam was an all-round sportsman with a bright academic future. A contented and happy boy, whose special smile brought fun to any occasion.

“This devastating loss has greatly affected all who had the pleasure of knowing this remarkable little boy.”

Sue Sanders, co-ordinator at the Wrexham Tennis Academy, said Adam would be sorely missed.

“All the staff at the tennis centre are totally devastated to hear this news,” she said.

“He was a regular on our academy squads and at our tournaments. He really loved the game and was so enthusiastic about playing and competing.

“Adam was a lovely, friendly little boy who had made a lot of friends. He will be greatly missed by everyone here and our thoughts are with his family at this awful time.”

John Hughes, headteacher of Victoria Junior School, described Adam as a “delightful and sparky little boy” loved by everyone.

“We were all shocked by his sudden death and our thoughts are with his family at this time.

“His year group have been made aware of his death and bereavement counsellors are on hand at the school to offer any advice and guidance that may be needed in the coming weeks.”

An inquest is expected to be opened by Cheshire coroner Nicholas Rheinberg later this week.
