TWO teenage schoolmates are organising a special gig in memory of a friend who died suddenly last year.

Katie Wright, 16, died in hospital on October 4 after being taken ill as she was travelling on a bus along Dean Road, close to her home in Borras Park, Wrexham.

Early in November her parents, Ian and Debra Wright, set up a fund in Katie’s name to support the British Heart Foundation. It is known as the Katie Wright Gift of Hope Heart Fund.

It has already raised thousands of pounds in Katie’s name and now close friends Hannah Walker and Jasmine Zammit Wilson are to stage a special evening to boost the fund still further.

Hannah, 16, of Borras Park, said: “Jasmine and I decided to organise a gig in memory of our friend Katie Wright, who sadly passed away on October 4, aged 16.

“From birth Katie had a serious heart condition which required regular specialist hospital appointments across the country.

“Katie enjoyed life to the full, taking part in dancing competitions, going out with friends, and she had a promising career in singing. After Katie passed away her family released a CD of Katie singing her three favourite songs.

“This CD raised £2,300 for the fund her parents set up and will be available to purchase at the gig for £3. As Katie was a lover of music, especially The Killers, we thought of no better way to raise money for the Katie Wright Gift of Hope Heart Fund than by throwing a gig.”

Hannah said: “On the night we will have a raffle. Prizes include gift vouchers for Pure Perfection Beauticians, one pair of designer sunglasses donated by Eye Style by Design and more.

“Also on the night we are having a charity leg wax, involving three brave boys, Matty Thomas, Sam Jones and Tom Curtin who will be getting their legs waxed by the women at Pure Perfection.

“They are looking for sponsors, so if you would like to donate please contact any of the boys via Facebook or email hannahwalker94@googlemail.com.”

The gig at Maesgwyn Hall, Mold Road, Wrexham, on Saturday, June 25, will continue from 7pm until midnight. Featured bands and artists will include Your Parade, Ben Barlow, Matty Thomas, Jade Marvin and Ambition.

Tickets at £4 each are available by emailing Hannah at hannahwalker94@googlemail.com.
