YSCEIFIOG 6
CAERWYS 0

DOES anybody fancy Ysceifiog for the championship?

They may be a little bit off the pace, but Sion Evans’ side know what it takes to secure the Summer League title and if they can maintain their unbeaten run, then who knows?

It’s four games now without defeat for Ysceifiog following their derby night triumph, while joint-Caerwys boss John Owens described it as a bad night at the office for his side.

“It was a bit of a low point in a season of low points,” he said.

Ysceifiog’s Danny Jones said: “I think it was one of our better performances of late.

“Everyone was up for it.”

There has been a lack of urgency about Ysceifiog’s recent displays, but that wasn’t the case during this Flintshire derby as they claimed an early lead thanks to Paul Cochrane’s first goal of the summer.

Player-boss Sion Evans doubled Ysceifiog’s money with his first goal of the campaign and it remained 2-0 up until the interval.

Caerwys did have their moments in the first half playing up the slope, but the loss of Rich Mike Jones to a foot injury before the break didn’t help their cause.

There was further injury woe for the visitors in the second period as goalkeeper Steve Davies was forced off.

There was a spectacular strike early in the second period to effectively seal the points.

Simon Holloway secured his fifth strike of the summer with a free kick from all of 45 yards.

Ysceifiog weren’t finished and Rob Raynor put them 4-0 to the good, before top scorer Tim Hughes bagged a second half double to complete a good night’s work.

The only real chance Caerwys created during the second 45 minutes fell to substitute Andy Price, with a well-taken shot.

Jake ‘Yog’ Spencer was the Caerwys star performer on the night, for his display in defence, while Nick Voyle gave a strong showing in the engine room.

For Ysceifiog, Shaun Edwards was an impressive figure at the heart of the defence.
