AN ELDERLY woman has been killed and three other people injured in a horrific crash.

The woman in her 80s, from the Hawarden area, was a passenger in the silver coloured Renault car which collided with a white Peugeot van yesterday morning at about 9am.

A man in his 30s with back pain and a 77-year-old man with abrasions, who were both in the car, were taken to Glan Clwyd Hospital after the crash on the lower Denbigh Road between St Asaph and Trefnant.

The woman, who has not been named, was also taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The van driver is also being treated in hospital for non life-threatening injuries.
One witness, who did not want to be named said: “There was a lot of activity. There were two ambulances a fire engine and three police cars.

“The road was closed until after midday.”

The B5381 was closed for more than four hours as police carried out investigations.

An inquest has yet to be opened. Police are appealing for witnesses following the collision.
