AN ANIMAL sanctuary is offering a permanent home for Wrexham’s famous pony.

Small white pony Ruby and owner Joe Purcell, who is a regular visitor to a traveller camp outside Wrexham, have been drawing crowds during their travels around the town.

Now animal experts at the Cornwall-based charity the Flicka Foundation, said they would be prepared to offer £200 to give the pony, which is believed to be in foal, a new home.

Judy Giles from the charity said: “We would like to take her on and offer her a home for life as we have been made aware of Ruby through the press.

“She looks well, but it is not a life for a pony. She should be grazing in a field with other horses. Our horses get a lot of attention and we get lots of visits from children.”

The foundation looks after more than 50 horses and ponies at its 30-acre site outside Falmouth. Its patrons include TV host Paul O’Grady.

Ruby and Joe have been spotted inside the Wetherspoons pub on Regent Street, outside various shops and pubs in the town centre, trying to board a train at Wrexham General station and at the accident and emergency department at the Maelor Hospital.

Judy said: “In his own way he is fond of her and he obviously loves her, but we would like her to have a nice home for the rest of her life. We feel concerned for her safety if she is pregnant. ”

A spokeswoman for Wrexham Council said the county’s animal welfare staff had no animal welfare concerns.

After making headlines across the world, the animal is now making posts on social networking site Twitter which allows users to follow the antics of celebrities and friends.

North Wales Police have said they are not looking into the matter. If you know the owner of the pony contact reporter Matt Jones on 01352 707789.
