A NEW £7.5million primary school is taking shape in Connah’s Quay.

The school is due to open in September 2012 and will replace the neighbouring Custom House Lane Junior School and Dee Road Infants’ School.

Pupils and staff from the two schools visited the site to see the work in progress.

Cllr Bernie Attridge, chairman of Dee Road governors and of the temporary governing body for the new school, said: “These are exciting times for the children and the staff ahead of moving to the new school.

“There are obviously sentimental issues about the old schools but we will now be moving into facilities fit for the 21st Century.

“We want to give the young people of Connah’s Quay the best possible start in life .

“The only thing separating the two schools at the moment is a fence and they will now be part of the same school.”

Cllr Attridge said there is a commitment to allow pupils to play their part in the new school, such as assisting in designing the new uniform.

The new single storey school, which has yet to be named, is being built by Brymbo-based Read Construction Holdings Ltd on the existing school playing fields.

It will accommodate 360 primary and 30 nursery pupils, with the current schools to continue operating in their current premises until the new facility is opened.

Custom House Lane headteacher Kate Fox-Parry is headteacher designate of the new school.
