THE grieving family of a young man, killed by a single punch, have marked the first anniversary of his death and say “life will never be the same again.”

Yesterday marked a year since 24-year-old Peter Jones, from Mold, was killed by a single punch while in Buckley with his father.

His sister Sarah, 29, said the week leading up to the anniversary of Peter’s death had been “terrible” for the family, who gathered at his graveside yesterday.

“He was fabulous,” she said. “He always made everyone laugh and lit up a room when he walked in.”

Last week Sarah received a thank you letter from Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridgeshire, where Peter had a liver transplant when he was three-years-old.

She gave the hospital a cheque last month for more than £2,000 raised by a sponsored walk by Peter’s family and friends from Mold to Moel Famau last July.

“I would like to thank all the shops that donated prizes for the fun day,” she said.

Sarah still recalls the day her brother came home from hospital after his liver transplant more than 20 years ago.

“I can remember him coming out of hospital and playing with me in the garden,” she said. ”I was so pleased he had come home but then he was taken away again.”

Sarah and her family visited the cemetery in Buckley where Peter is buried to lay flowers on his grave.

“We were very close,” said Sarah “We got on well.”

Sarah and Peter’s mum, Christine, added she was “very proud” of her daughter for raising so much money.

“I’m glad the money will help the hospital,” she said.

Their dad, also Peter Jones, spoke of his deep sorrow and loss that he still suffers.

He said: “I am still devastated. Life will never be the same again."

Peter’s grandmother, Anne Jones, started a petition calling for tougher sentencing for manslaughter and murder after Gafyn Denman, a 22-year-old from Mold, was given a sentence of three years and four months for the manslaughter of Peter.

The sentence, Peter’s family say, is not enough.

“We’re just waiting to hear now from the House of Commons,” she said.
