A YOUNG woman, who had no idea she was pregnant, gave birth while she was in the loo.

Size eight Lauren Peberdy, 20, was on the pill when she gave birth to a 8lb 7oz baby boy on her boyfriend’s bathroom floor.

It was an even bigger surprise for Gavin Jones, 21, who had seen no weight gain or unusual cravings from his girlfriend of two years.

Baby Dylan-James, now three-months-old, lives with Lauren at her parents’ home in Caernarfon Close, Shotton, and visits Gavin regularly at his parents’ home on Cornist Road, Flint.

Lauren recalled the day their lives changed for ever. She was at Gavin’s house when she went to the toilet and realised something was afoot when all of a sudden her waters broke.

“I was sitting on the loo at Gavin’s house when I just felt something drop,” she said.

“I called Gavin’s mum and she said she could see a baby’s head. By the time the paramedics arrived five minutes later I had given birth on the bathroom floor.”

Lauren, a former pupil at Upton High School, Chester, said she noticed no difference in her body in the run-up to the birth.

“Two weeks before the birth I went for a pill check-up at the doctor’s,” she said.

“They weighed me and measured my blood pressure and said everything was normal. I didn’t put on weight or get any cravings at all. You would think I’d have had a bump but I had nothing whatsoever.

“I can’t remember what was going through my mind when I gave birth but Gavin looked like he didn’t know what on earth was going on. It took about two weeks for the whole thing to sink in.”

The pair, who are currently searching for a house together, say they are coping remarkably well with their new arrival.

“Dylan is a really happy baby,” said Lauren. “He just smiles all the time and is no trouble whatsoever.

“I’m quite surprised how well we are coping considering it was unexpected.”

Gavin, a former St Richard Gwyn High School pupil, works as a fitness instructor.

Lauren trained as a beauty therapist at Deeside College before working at Absolute Bliss, in Hoole, Chester, and Beauty With Joanne, Buckley. “I worked right up until the birth,” she added.

“My last shift was on a Saturday and then Dylan was born on a Tuesday. Hopefully in six months time we will have a house and I can start looking for more work.”

For the meantime the couple, who met at RBs nightclub in Chester, are looking forward to Dylan-James’ Christening at St Mark’s Church, Connah’s Quay, on May 22 followed by a reception at the Civic Hall.
