A TERRIFIED barmaid was mugged in broad daylight on her way to the bank with her pub’s takings.

Police are still hunting the robber after a “substantial” amount of money was taken during the robbery in Padeswood Road, Buckley, at about 1pm yesterday.

The woman, who was working at the Nant Inn pub, was alone when she was approached from behind by a man in dark clothing, who snatched her handbag before escaping down a nearby alley towards Alyn Road.

Police sealed off the road and deployed the force helicopter and dogs in the hunt for the robber while forensic teams carried out an investigation.

People said there was a large police presence  on Padeswood Road after the robbery.

Yesterday, staff at the Nant Inn declined to comment.

The attack was condemned by community leaders who said people were in shock.

Buckley councillor Neville Phillips said: “It is quite disturbing to hear of this happening in Buckley. There was a lot of police activity.”

Cllr Ron Hampson said: “It is very worrying to hear of a daylight attack. It is very bad and very upsetting. It is a shock to the community as we have a relatively low crime rate around here. It is a particularly nasty attack even though the victim was unhurt. She is very shaken.”

A police spokesman said: “The large black leather bag, with gold studs on the front, contained a substantial amount of cash. The man is described as 5ft 10ins tall and of slim build. He was wearing dark clothes and a hood or cap on his head.

“Anyone with information is asked to call North Wales Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
