A TOWN is hoping to organise its biggest street party ever to celebrate the royal wedding.

Complete with three music stages and a land train, as well as the usual bunting and food, the Mold Street Party will be taking place along the High Street and in Daniel Owen Square on Friday.

Organised by Dee Valley Events, the Mold 2000 retail group and Mold Town Council, the family friendly event will also feature television screens showing the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Anthony Parry, chairman of Mold 2000, says organising the day has been a real community effort.

He said: “People were complaining there was no carnival in the town so we thought we would take on a royal wedding street party before attempting a carnival.

“We’ve got a closure order form the council for the High Street and when we have to reopen the street at 6pm we will move onto the Daniel Owen square where there will be a stage.

“We’ve got provision if it rains but we’re hoping for a fine day.

“Everyone we’ve approached has been extremely good for donating their services.”

Stephanie Booth, from Dee Valley Events, said the company had a whole host of activities planned throughout the day.

“We’ve pulled out all the stops on this one and will be bringing everything from Rodeo Bulls to trampolines as well as climbing walls and the amazing Spider Mountain,” she said.

“We’ve even arranged for a penalty shoot out for all the footy fans and expect the day to be a roaring success. It’s just a shame there isn’t a royal wedding every year as I’m sure the people of Mold are going to love this.”

Local businesses and charities are invited to set up stalls at the event to sell their produce.

Darren Rigby runs the card and sweet stall in Mold Indoor Market and is helping organise the stall side of the street party.

“It’s £10 for charities to have a stall and £30 for businesses,” he said. “Ideally we’d like local businesses so Mold can do better out of it and the money will go back into the town.”

Attractions will include a rodeo bull, climbing wall and hog roast.

“The idea is to fill the whole of the town with as many things as possible,” said Darren.

“We’re trying to be the biggest street party ever.”

Mold’s street party will take place between noon and 9pm.
