FIVE people have been arrested in Mold in connection with the murder of a 29-year-old man.

Police arrested a 25-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man yesterday morning on suspicion of the murder of Thomas James Thompson, while two other people, a 50-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A fifth person, a 31-year-old woman from Liverpool, was also arrested in Mold yesterday afternoon on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Mr Thompson, 29, from Liverpool, was found dead at the Manor Hotel on Edge Lane, Liverpool, on Sunday.

Police were called to the hotel at 9am on Sunday morning following a report a man had been found dead in a room.

A post mortem examination has been carried out but the results have not been released as they will form part of the detectives’ questioning, say police.

Residents in Mold said they saw police surround a property near Bryn Coch School on Alexandra Road in Mold at about 8am yesterday.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said they could not confirm the address where the arrests took place but said all five arrests took place in Mold.

Det Chief Insp Chris Green said: “An extensive investigation into this matter is still under way and we are determined to bring the people responsible to justice.

“We are still keen to speak to anyone with information about this incident to come forward.

“In particular I am appealing for the driver of a black Hackney cab that picked up two women and one man on Ranelagh Street in Liverpool city centre on Saturday night to come forward. The taxi picked these people up near Central Station between 7.30pm and 8.30pm and then dropped them at the Weighing Machine public house in Wavertree.”

Police have said the 21-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender is from North Wales.

The four other people arrested, three women aged 25, 31 and 50, and a 29-year-old man, are all from the Liverpool area.

Anyone with information is asked to call 0151 7774065 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

A spokesman for North Wales Police said they had assisted Merseyside Police in carrying out the warrants for the arrests.
