A GLOBAL internet singing sensation is back – and this time he has a Flintshire town in his sights.

Spoof wannabe ‘actor’ David Garland Jones, a comedy creation of writer Jon Tregenna and played by actor Russell Gomer, shot to fame when his video for You Ain’t Seen Ruthin Yet became a YouTube sensation.

Now he has returned with a clip featuring 13 spoof songs. including Mold, which is sung to the tune of Spandau Ballet’s 80s classic, Gold.

The character even dresses up as Spandau Ballet lead singer Tony Hadley.

Jon, of Llanelli, said: “David Garland Jones is desperate to make it as an actor. He is a tragic, sad character. He does lots of things such as put acting lessons on YouTube.

“He sings Mold instead of Gold throughout, but he hasn’t rewritten any of the other lyrics. It was chosen because Mold fits in so well with the title.”

So far David Garland Jones’ videos have had more than 100,000 views across the globe.

“The reaction has been really positive,” said Jon.

“You Ain’t Seen Ruthin Yet went berserk, I think everyone in Ruthin heard it.”

And the character has even performed in Mold at Clwyd Theatr Cymru.

Jon explains the thinking behind the video, he said: “It is fun. There is not a lot going on in Welsh comedy and YouTube has given us a platform.

“David is fast getting a reputation for being Wales’ most famous ‘loser’.

“He has attracted interest from TV and film companies.

He is going to Los Angeles this September to appear at the west coast eisteddfod as a guest of AmeriCymru who forge cultural and business links between Wales and America.”

The 4.57 minute-clip also features the Moody Blues’ Nights In Prestatyn and a re-write of Sinead O’Connor’s finest moment, Ruthin Compares To You.
