AN 11-year-old schoolboy remains in a serious condition after being hit by a car on a “danger” road.

Calls have been made for a safety survey after Ysgol Merllyn pupil Zach Ashley, of Bron y Wern, Bagillt, was left with serious head injuries after being involved in a collision with a Ford KA on Bagillt High Street, near The Blossoms pub, at about 5pm on Monday.

Last night he was described as being in a “critical but stable” condition at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.

The 51-year-old male driver of the car, also from the local area, was uninjured.

Bagillt East councillor Norma Jones has made calls for a safety survey to make sure the road is safe.

She said: “It is very shocking for the community to hear about this. The thoughts and prayers of everyone are with the family at this time.

“Residents do complain about that section of road along there. I have heard people ask for a crossing but I do not think it would do much good as there are four pull-outs there.”

Sgt Jane Thomas from the North Wales Police Eastern Roads Policing Unit said the boy was playing on a push scooter when the accident happened.

One neighbour who did not want to be named said Zach was a “nice” lad and the stretch of road where the accident happened was dangerous because of poor visibility.

Another neighbour added: “He is a really polite and sociable lad. He loves to go out on his bike.

“People cannot believe what has happened. It is really sad. It is shocking.”

Zach was taken by ambulance to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, but later transferred to The Walton Centre in Liverpool for emergency surgery before being admitted to Alder Hey.

Witnesses to the collision are asked to contact PC Mark Jones on 101 or North Wales Police Eastern Roads Policing Unit on 0845 607 1002.
