THESE are the first pictures of a stunning cake to mark the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Proud chefs have been busy working on their creation as part of a team led by Graham Tinsley, who works at Carden Park Hotel on the outskirts of Chester.

The cake took more than 300 hours to bake and decorate, has four tiers and is traditionally decorated with ivory royal icing.

It bears the monograms of William and Catherine, Prince William’s coat of arms, the red Welsh dragon and a harp.

Prince William and his bride-to-be took Graham, Welsh National Culinary Team manager and executive head chef at the hotel, up on his offer of making a cake to celebrate their marriage on April 29.

The cake will be donated to Centrepoint, a charity for homeless young people, of which Prince William is patron.

Graham said the Welsh team was honoured to be baking for the Royal nuptials.

He said: “With Prince William being stationed on Anglesey and going to live in North Wales with his bride following the wedding, I think it’s fitting Welsh chefs should bake a cake for them.”

Arrangements are now being made to deliver the cake to Centrepoint.

Its chief executive, Seyi Obakin, said: “It will be a special way for young people supported by Centrepoint to be involved in our patron’s wedding day celebrations.”

The cake has already attracted global attention with media coverage in the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Pakistan. ITV has filmed it for a documentary about the Royal wedding and a crew from Canadian show Entertainment Tonight is due to fly in to interview the chefs.
