A SEARCH is being launched to find the Leader Prom Princess for 2011.

We’re teaming up with the upmarket boutique and jewellery store, SuSu’s, at the Eagles Meadow shopping centre in Wrexham.

SuSu’s, which specialises in glamorous prom fashion, is providing fabulous prizes to ensure our Prom Princess truly will be the belle of the ball.

The winner will win a dress to the value of £200, a £25 voucher for accessories and a glamorous makeover by celebrity make-up artist Kate Cheshire who has worked with TV stars, Miss Wales contestants and the Ryder Cup wives when they came to the Celtic Manor last year.

In addition, the Leader will carry a picture feature of the winner being given the star treatment at SuSu’s in readiness for her big night.

The two-floor shop was opened at Eagles Meadow last year by Susie Ryder and her husband, James.

The high school proms started off as an American phenomenon but has now taken off across the UK.

Susie explained: “We are very excited to be able to provide the prizes for the Leader Prom Princess competition.

“For the uninitiated, the school proms are when all pupils coming to the end of their GCSE year dress up in glamorous formal evening gowns and black ties and hire limos to take them to the school dance which marks their ‘graduation’.

“One of the biggest suppliers of prom dresses is Precious Formals, who are the biggest in America and we are their biggest UK customer.

“Precious Formals have provided outfits for Hollywood films like Prom Night and hit TV shows such as Laguna Beach.

“Here, customers come in and we spend maybe an hour or more trying on dresses, we also have a catwalk show on screen so they can see the dresses being modelled.

“It’s all about customer service. We can match everything to go with it from shoes and bags to jewellery and jackets. One of the reasons for coming to Wrexham was that most of our customers tend to be from over this side of North Wales and from the North West.

“This unit in Eagles Meadow is ideal, we will have a luxury boutique on the ground floor and high fashion upstairs. I get telephone calls for dresses from London, Scotland, even the Isle of Man, because the Precious range is so extensive – we have over 200 styles here in Wrexham and our new shop in Newcastle Under Lyme.

“Proms are going to grow, it’s just like ‘trick or treat’ and Halloween which came from the USA and is now a multi-million pound business. We recognised it was going to take-off and specialised in that area but it’s not just proms, we have dresses for all special occasions, such as a dress to go to the races in, or for a cruise.”

Eagles Meadow Manager Kevin Critchley said: “The SuSu’s store is a terrific addition to the retail offer of Eagles Meadow in particular.

“It is yet another independent retailer which provides added variety and glamour – and is the perfect destination for the Leader Prom Princess.

“We are undoubtedly the capital of shopping in North Wales – and we have a fantastic array of stores to suit all tastes.

“One of the strengths of the centre is that it is not just about retail because there is also a very strong leisure element.

“You can start with breakfast in Starbucks, do all your shopping in all the retail outlets, have a family meal in one of our great restaurants and then enjoy some tenpin bowling before going to the cinema to watch a film.

“All of this and find the perfect prom outfit at the same time!”
