A PENSIONER who was left distraught when yobs threw rubbish into her garden has thanked a councillor who cleared up the mess.

Disabled Marie Allsopp, of Dodds Drive, Connah’s Quay, was upset when she found a bag of rubbish containing dirty nappies on her lawn on Sunday evening.

The 72-year-old, who suffers from arthritis and uses a wheelchair, put several calls into Flintshire Council to clear the mess but was left waiting until the following evening.

At her wits end she rang Connah's Quay councillor Bernie Attridge who came to the rescue with his litter picker.

Mrs Allsopp told the Leader: “I don’t know who could have possibly done this.

“I get on well with everybody so I was really upset that somebody would dump this rubbish in my garden.

“There were cats eating from the binbag who would have gone back to their homes and played with children. They could have passed on an infection or anything.

“I called Bernie who said he would get somebody on the case. Then he called me back and said that no-one was available so he would come himself.

“The whole thing was very upsetting.”

Widowed Mrs Allsopp said living alone was frightening but had a message of thanks for Cllr Attridge.

“I never feel safe,” she added.

“But Bernie made me feel safe. He is a man in a million and I am very grateful.”

A modest Cllr Attridge said his kind deed was all in the line of duty.

“I was happy to help,” he said.

“I did it to stop her from worrying and getting upset. It was nothing to me but I’m glad I could make a difference.”
