VITAL work is being carried out to deal with a growing problem with potholes.

St Peter’s Park, Northop, is to be resurfaced after Flintshire Council pledged £30,000 for improvements to be carried out.

Northop councillor Marion Bateman has helped secure the funding, which will see the road resurfaced.

She said: “This has been a concern to residents and I am glad this problem is being resolved.

“Some of the potholes are quite large and you would not want to drive your car over them.

“It is good news this is being sorted and I’d like to thank the council for its help.”

Cllr Bateman said: “The bad weather we had during the winter made things worse.

“But things have been compounded by the roadworks through the centre of Northop in recent weeks.

“As a result, more cars are using this road as a means of bypassing the roadworks and that has put more pressure on it.”

The resurfacing project is one of many being carried out in Flintshire thanks to £720,000 of Welsh Assembly Government funding.

Cllr Tony Sharps, Flintshire deputy leader and executive member for environment, has been involved in distributing the money for repairing potholes.

He said: “The funding has been awarded by priority and the severity of the repairs, covering across the county.

“There have been very difficult decisions to make.

“We have had two very bad winters and the wintry conditions have taken their toll on our roads.”

More than £17million is being spent nationally in Wales to help repair the roads.
