VILLAGERS are battling to try to save a community’s historic pub, which was closed last month.
An internet Facebook and leafleting campaign has got under way in an attempt to get the Tyn Y Capel in Minera re-opened.
One of the protesters is Gale Taylor who says the pub’s closure is a massive loss to village life.
“There are people who feel devastated. The Tyn Y Capel has been such an important part of the social fabric. I have lived here for years and made many friends from going there,” she said.
“It has a friendly, warm atmosphere and is such a good way of meeting others. The nearest alternative pub is about 15 minutes away.”
Villagers have started a Facebook page called Save The Tyn Y Capel, asking people to get in contact with the local authority before March 17. This is in addition to leaflets that have been produced to highlight the campaign.
Minera Community Council chairman John Edwards said he felt it was sad that the Tyn Y Capel was no longer in operation, describing it as a very welcoming pub.
“It was a real focal point for the neighbourhood. It is a little piece of history round here. It was built hundreds of years ago and used by travellers as a resting place at the time.
“There aren’t any other pubs in Minera so it will be really missed. It is such a shame.”
The Leader has contacted the Tyn Y Capel over the campaign to re-open the pub but has not received a response from the owner.
- On February 21, Wrexham Council received a planning application involving the Tyn Y Capel for a new extension to the existing entrance and change of use of commercial floor space into residential accommodation at an adjacent dwelling.
